Schlosskogel Erste STK Ried

Primarily lapilli and bomb tuff, volcanic ash in other words, featuring volcanic phenocrysts such as lava pieces, olivine bombs and other crystals, dominated by finer particles. The ashes are half volcanic and tertiary in composition in the colours brown-grey, weathered dark grey and red.

Soil Type: fine, silty sediment
Ground Type: lime-free loose sediment- brown earth composed of fine tertiary sediment interspersed with volcanic material.


The Schlosskogel, at 471 meters, is the highest point of the Kapfensteiner Kogel. The 3 ha vineyard extends across a plateau, bordered by areas dropping steeply from the south-east to south-west.
